A Study On the Function of Upper Extremity and Functional Recovery of the Patient with Hemiplegia
Choi Hyae-Sook

Abstract
A Study On The Function of Upper Extremity and Functional Recovery of The Patient With Hemiplegia This study is aimed at identifying correlation between MFT(Manual Function Test) and MBI(Modified Bartel Index) of CVA patient with hemiplegia. The subjects of this study consisted of 36 CVA patients with hemiplegia who were hospitalized in I University Hospital. The correlation coefficients were measured at first within a month after an attack of disease and at three-month after the first measurement. The findings were as follows l. In the first measurement, within one month after an attack of disease, the correlation coefficient between MFT and MBI for ill-part of patient(r=.540)showed significant statistically. But in the second measurement, at three-month after the first measure, there was no significant relationship. 2. There was no significant relationship between MFT and MBI for sound part of the patient in a month after an attack of the disease. And MFT for sound part after three month showed significant relationship statistically with MBI both within a month and after three months, scored .542 and,636 respectively. 3. Within a month after an attack of disease, every ill-part MFT component and MBI showed significant relationship but MFT and MBI after three months have no significant relationship except grasp.
4. Every sound part MFT component and MBI within a month showed no significant relationship except that of carrying a cube and pegboard. But the sound part MFT and MBI after three months showed significant relationship. From the above findings the function of ill part upper extremity is an appropriate factor for predicting functional recovery within one month after attacked by disease, and function of sound part upper extremity is for after three months. Therefore results of evaluation on the upper extremity function for ill and sound part shall be applied for functional recovery of patients with hemiplegia appropriately.
